Some men and women are incorrigible cheaters, yet they love their spouses and want to keep their marriages. Perhaps this describes you. If it does, there are precautions you can take to minimize the chance of your spouse discovering an affair and avoid inflicting pain on him or her.

1.             Select a paramour wisely. Reports vary, but as many as 15% of all affairs are discovered because of the “other woman” confronting the wife or partner. Your affair will stay hidden longer if your lover is also married or in a committed relationship, basically an all-around emotionally stable person.

2.             Step 2

In addition, don’t have an affair with someone in yours our your spouse’s circle of acquaintances. Don’t have an affair with someone you work with, or a friend of the family.

3.             Step 3

Get a separate cell phone and use a separate bank account at another bank to pay for the phone and other affair-related expenses. Suspicious spouses can often uncover a cheater by looking at bank and cell phone records. Keep the phone charged in your office, and if you must take it home, keep it hidden in your briefcase. Don’t just turn the sound off at home, turn the phone off!

4.             Step 4

Be circumspect about choosing confidantes. Ideally, you should tell no one, but if you need to vent or confess, choose someone you trust absolutely. Don’t tell anyone who will pressure you to admitting the affair to your spouse, or any peers who might see you as a competitor of sorts. You should also avoid telling people who may have guilty consciousness of their own.

5.             Step 5

Plan your meetings with the other person well in advance and rehearse your alibis. “Working late” is a tired excuse and most spouses will grow suspicious if you recite it too often. Don’t get together on the same date and time. This will not work, as suspicion will start to grow from both sides..

6.             Step 6

Take care to hide physical evidence of the affair and other woman. That means having your trysts outside the home. If you are a cheater, at least be respectful enough of your husband or wife to not have sex with someone else in the bed you share. Be careful not to contract an STD either.

7.             Step 7

The best way to avoid detection of your affair is to not have one in the first place. But if you are going to do it anyway, use some common sense discretion.
